Pakur in its emergence and inception had been a cluster of ponds and orchards surrounded by deep forest and hard rocks under the range of Rajmahal hills. It had previously been raj in its new dimension under the British rule. The British had also been the centre of revolutionary activities. The repercussions of which might be seen in the Santhal Pragana Hul 1885. There is evidence of area having been in habited since very early times. Among the early settlers of their territory of whom there is any record are the Maler (Sauriya Paharies) who still in habit some areas of Rajmahal hills and its adjoining hilly tracts. They have been identified with Malli period of Chandragupta Maurya. According to him the Malli where a race holding the country between the people of Magadh and the people of lower Bengal it reference has also been found in the travel account of Hiuen- t-Singh. The founder of the family helped Raja Man Singh. The reputed general of Mughal emperor Akhbar in Bengal invasion. In reward he got the office of Mansab Jaigir of the tract Rajmahal and Pakur on the east of the hills to Kahalgaon and Gooda on their Western face. Whether the control they exercised was effective or, as is more probable.
LKSK is an NGO based at Devinagar of Pakur district (a district located in the north east corner of the Jharkhand bordering of Mushirdabad) district of West Bengal which is working among the local disadvantage community with a vision to form an Enlightment & empowered society through education, health awareness community based income generation programme since October 2000. LKSK got registered on 8/10/2003. Under ITA act 1882 under the trust byelaws it is committed to decide a set of activities and inputs such as eradication of literacy, poverty, social abuse, migration, trafficking, child labour, child marriage etc. The vision is to create a self-reliant equitable value based education society through social transformation empowerment of deprived population. LKSK has been working in 2 blocks of Pakur district, 7 blocks of Dumka district, 2 blocks of Godda district and 2 Blocks of Sahebganj district in state of Jharkhand with special focus on children, women, youths, of local tribes ( Santhal, Minority & Pahariya) and Muslim minority community. The region is also significantly under developed due to absence of industries and allied sectors. Majority of the population are depended on agriculture cattle rearing, mining (stone quarries & coal mines) Biri Udyogh, forest for their livelihood. The journey of LKSK started with the set up of a voice of People’s Santhan gradually LKSK has gained recognition in Pakur by making its presence felt in various programme on water & sanitation, health & hygiene, education, SRI promotion, Legal Camp in different location of Pakur, Dumka, Godda & Sahebganj district of Jharkhand. Geographilly LKSK has established a strong presence across 4 districts of Jharkhand namely Pakur, Dumka, Godda, and Sahebganj, primarily focusing on tribal-oriented regions. Initially concentrated in Pakuriya and Maheshpur blocks in District Pakur, Dumka, Kathikund, Gopikandar, Shikaripara, Raneshwar, Masaliya and Jama blocks in District Dumka, Poraiyahat and Sundarpahari blocks in District Godda, as well as Barhet and Borio blocks in District Sahebganj, its operations have steadily expanded over time, enhancing its reach and influence. With a firm commitment to empowering communities, LKSK conducts a range of impactful activities such as district-level training sessions and sensitization workshops for various stakeholders, fostering awareness, skill development, and meaningful engagement. LKSK has now come to the limelight in the district. Successful implementation of programme with support of GOJ, Govt. of India and adequate media coverage has also helped LKSK to earn reputation at state level. ST, SC and Muslim minorities as well as women have now been given special attention through the organization's journey, the poor economic and social plight of the population in the district is the obvious reason for choosing this district for LKSK. Pakur, Dumka, Godda and Sahebganj as a work area based on the notion; if you want to change the world, change your home first.
